Carving a Simple Celtic Weave
- Prepare tools that you need, including the pattern, on a piece of carbon.
- Using a glue stick, glue the cutout pattern on the wood.
- Using a ballpoint pen, trace the pattern.
- Choose the chisel you want to cut a 45-degree angle to give you the straight edges.
- Once you’re done doing the straight edges, you can already start doing the curved edges.
- Use a gouge to make curved edges.
- After carving your Celtic weave pattern, you can use a smoothing plane to clean up a few splinters and rough spots.
Curved Wood Arches – Arches are commonly used components of architecture because they can distribute the weight from the apex of the curve down onto the vertical structure of the walls. If you’re wondering how to make curved wood arches, here’s how:
- Prepare the tools needed, like plywood sheets, 5-6 beams, wood glue, a jigsaw, a drill, measuring tape, pencil, and sandpaper.
- For drawing the arch, you need a string, a pencil, and a couple of nails, screws, or tacks.
- Cut out your arch using a jigsaw.
- Sand the edges of your plywood arches.
- Trace your arch segments onto the rest of your plywood. Cut them all out then sand the edges.
- Apply glue to one side of an arch segment and then place the next layer on top. Screw together when the glue dries. Just repeat the steps to make as many arches as you need.
